Video Title / CaptionI’ve Been Living In Sequim For The Last Month, And Before We Pack Up And Move On Monday, There Was One Place I Couldn’t Leave Without Seeing. The New Dungeness Light Station Sits At The Very End Of A Five Mile Sand Spit — A Long, Narrow Trail That Changes With Every Tide And Every Shift In The Wind. I’d Been Putting This Hike Off, Partly Because The Tide Never Lined Up With My Schedule, And Partly Because I Wanted The Right Kind Of Day For It. Not Perfect Weather. Not Calm Seas. Just A Day That Felt Honest. Today Ended Up Being That Day. Walking The Dungeness Spit Is Strange In The Best Way. The Ocean Sits On Both Sides Of You, Close Enough That The Sound Never Fades, And Every Few Minutes The Waves Remind You That You’re Basically Walking A Temporary Path. Parts Of The Trail Disappear At High Tide, And The Spit Reshapes Itself Constantly — Driftwood Moves, Channels Shift, And The Sand Tells A Different Story Every Day. There’s A Long History Here. Ships Like The Pacific, The Sultana, And The Traveler Ran Aground Along This Coastline In The 1800S. Fog, Storms, Bad Timing… And Suddenly This Peaceful Stretch Of Sand Became A Dangerous Place To Be. The Steamer Sioux Grounded In 1914, And Passengers Had To Climb Out Onto The Spit Until The Lighthouse Keepers Reached Them. It’s Easy To Understand Why This Beacon Was Built In 1857 — The Strait Of Juan De Fuca Didn’t Give Sailors Many Second Chances. By The Time The Lighthouse Came Into View, The Tide Was Still Inching Higher, And I Found Myself Thinking About The People Who Lived Out Here Full Time, Tending The Light Through Storms And Isolation. Today, Volunteers Take Turns Spending A Week At A Time Maintaining It — Keeping The Place Alive In A Way That Still Feels Connected To The Original Keepers. This Whole Walk Was A Good Reminder That Not Every Adventure Needs Perfect Conditions. Sometimes You Just Go, See What The Day Gives You, And Appreciate The Moments In Front Of You. I’m Glad I Saved This For Last. It’s A Quiet Place, But It Carries A Lot. ##Washingtoncoast#Pnwlighthouse #Dungenessspit #Uncoverexploration
