Little Guitars | Van Halen I think this tune is really underrated. I guess with the tiny guitar it feels like a bit of a 'novelty', but really this song is oozing with musicality. Maybe if it had more of a typical soaring EVH solo, it would be right up there in perception with the hits. It's fun to play, but it did take me a little while to get that joyous picking happening. I found the trick is to keep the picking hand rigid like Eddie does, which does feel odd to begin with but allows for more agility. It's also wise to employ a traditional index finger style pick grip (which is rare in Eddie's playing) which frees up the middle and ring finger for the plucks. Winding the volume down to 7 is helpful too, because it reduces the sustain and increases the snappiness of the tone.
