In my previous carousel (you’ll find the imagery from today’s reel) and where I talk about the reasons why ‘pearls’ were given to young girls as seen in portraits dating from the 15th century onwards… And today’s reel is a little more discussion around this topic and in particular why baby girls and infants are seen wearing a ‘pearl choker’. So the pearl choker symbolises - → 1. A fashionable accessory worn by girls and women. → 2. Indicated the girls ‘status’ and social standing - pearls were expensive gems → 3. Stood for purity and innocence → 4. Also represented the ‘waters of baptism’ - which symbolised ‘new life’ and new beginnings. → 5.
