First time flying Jetstar from Australia to New Zealand ✈️🇳🇿 This is Cairns to Christchurch, booked last minute, and going in with very low expectations… so here’s the honest review. Jetstar is definitely a no frills budget airline, but for a 5 hour flight, the seat spacing was actually better than we expected. We originally selected seats in the back, but somehow our family got moved forward and Alex ended up with extra legroom. No idea how that happened, but the surprise upgrade was really nice! Carryon rules were the part we were most nervous about. Jetstar is known for being strict with weight, especially if you’re doing a carryon. We had a backup plan ready just in case, and thankfully didn’t run into issues this time. Food surprised us in a good way. We preselected meals ahead of the flight, which meant we were served first. Options included a veg duo, a cheese and tomato relish toastie and a chicken wrap. Meals came with a hot drink only, while canned sodas were extra ($5 AUD / $3 USD), which is pretty standard for budget airlines. The biggest win? The views. Flying into New Zealand was unreal. Overall, Jetstar isn’t fancy, but for a direct Australia to New Zealand flight, it was totally fine and we’d fly them again.
